Did Jesus say that he is God in the Gospel?

Some people want to know the statements of Jesus about his extraordinary nature or divine attributes. Jesus showed in a direct way that he is God

Matthew 28:18 - “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth”. Mark 4:39 - “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm”.

Eternal – has no beginning and no end

John 8:58 - “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am”. John 16:28 - “I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father”.

Revelation 1:8 - “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty”. Revelation 22:13 - “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”

Authority – declaring to be equal to God

Matthew 26:63-65 – “But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy”.

John 10:30-33 – “I and [my] Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God”.

John 14:9-11 – “ Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I [am] in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.”

Supreme Judge – ruler of a final

Matthew 16:27 – “For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works”.

Jesus showed that he has divine attributes

Omnipresent – present everywhere

Matthew 18:20 - “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”. John 6:35 - “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”

Revelation 1:8 - “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty”.

Omniscient – all-knowing

In the Bible, Jesus said that he knows every heart and is able to look right into the heart of a human being.

John 1:48 - “Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.”

Love – goodness for people

Jesus has unconditional feeling or affection for people, according to the Bible.

John 15:13 -“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”.

John 8:24 – “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins”.


Many verses in the New Testament show capabilities only God has. This will rise the question to decide that Jesus is God. The importance of such a decision is trust in Jesus. When Jesus is God, he has sufficient power to forgive your sin.
