Qur'an 3:84: Are the revelations in the Book of Jesus to be believed?

Muslims are called to believe in Jesus in many verses, one of them is the following one: “Say, ‘We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him.’" (Qur’an 3:84). It is not only a guideline to accept and to believe in Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Descendants and Moses, but also in Jesus the Messiah. What is the impact for Muslims?

What was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants

And important aspect of the quote “… and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants …” is about the fear of the mentioned people in the judgment of God Almighty. Qur’an 23:101-103 has messages about this judgment at the end of times: “So when the Horn is blown, no relationship will there be among them that Day, nor will they ask about one another. And those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds] - it is they who are the successful. But those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally”. The verse can be explained in an easy way by reading in the Bible the verse Genesis 15:6 about Abraham: “And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.” We can learn from Abraham that his faith made him justified in the eyes of God. It were not only his good deeds, because Abraham also made mistakes (Qur’an 28:82), like you and me.

What was given to Moses

“… and in what was given to Moses… “ refers to the importance of God’s Law. To be obedient to God’s Law will bless people and to be obedient in a perfect way to it will certainly touch the heart of God Almighty. But who is perfect on earth? Who never did any mistake, not even a very small one? Remember that you need to answer before God Almighty, the Supreme Being of heaven and earth, who can observe everything. Missing even a very small sin means lying to God and making a mistake or sin. Taking away a sweetie as a child from your parents is a mistake. Having lust for women is adultery and is also a mistake. So, here we see the problem of mankind. No matter how many good deeds you have done, how wealthy you are, how many relations you have or how many family members, one day we will die and what will happen then? How can a Muslim be sure, while the Qur’an is not giving direct certainty: "Those whom they call upon do desire (for themselves) means of access to their Lord, - even those who are nearest: they hope for His Mercy and fear His Wrath: for the Wrath of thy Lord is something to take heed of" (Qur’an 17:57). When you want to live in truth, you are aware that you are a sinner. We are not as perfect as God. Only God is perfect, because he is eternal and exists before all times.

What was given to Jesus

Qur’an 3:84 is also saying: “and in what was given to ... Jesus…”. It is a call to believe in what was revealed to Jesus. It means that the revelations in Jesus’ book are to be believed. Allah gave Jesus guidance and light (Qur’an 5:46). Allah gave the Injil (الَ جٔ ١ً ) to Jesus (Qur’an 57:27). In English: Gospel, which means Good News. But why is this so good? It is a great blessing for you to understand what Jesus taught from the Scriptures, see Qur’an 19:30. You can find the blessings in the following Gospel verse: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19). A believer can get freedom from the situation where he is accused as an imperfect law keeper who is unrighteous in the eyes of God Almighty. A price had to be paid by Jesus to make it possible for the believer to be set free as an oppressed. The result is that by faith in Jesus the Messiah, the believer will get salvation and victory over sin. By prayerfully reading the Gospel, you will receive the blessings and salvation of Jesus Christ. In the Gospel you will learn the forgiveness of sins and the assurance of reaching heaven after death. Jesus said: “He who hears My Word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” (John 5:24).

Conclusion

We come to the step to answer the question: are the revelations in the Book of Jesus to be believed? For above mentioned points we can decide that the revelations of the Injil or Gospel need to be believed and that it is the key to pass Judgment Day when the horn is blown.
